Independent software studio / Portland, Maine

SUK Labs.

Less busywork.
More possibility.

Thoughtful software for small teams. I turn the work you do by hand into tools that quietly take care of it.

Experience where getting it right matters.

01 / What I do

The missing piece
in your everyday work.

Not another platform to manage. A focused solution for the spreadsheet, handoff or recurring task that keeps slowing your team down.

Connect the dots.

Make your CRM, forms and data sources work together. Enter information once, then let it reach the people and systems that need it.

Integrations / Data pipelines / Automation

Make it self-service.

Turn a recurring request into a calculator, dashboard or internal tool. Give your team useful answers without another spreadsheet handoff.

Calculators / Dashboards / Internal tools

Find the right use for AI.

Look closely at how work moves. Use AI where it genuinely helps, conventional automation where it fits, and leave the rest alone.

Workflow assessments / AI-assisted tools

02 / Selected experience

Complex underneath.
Clear on the surface.

A few examples of the work I bring to SUK Labs.

01

Healthcare

A clinical ROI estimator.

A self-service tool that makes a healthcare company's value easier to explore. Now serving as a lead channel for partnership conversations.

02

Public health

Data with a sense of place.

A public-health mapping platform that turns complex information into a visual resource people can explore and understand.

03

Financial services

Systems that speak to each other.

CRM and market-data integration for a Maine financial advisory firm, connecting the systems around its client workflows.

04

Applied AI

Ask your data a question.

A natural-language database interface for non-technical users, with every generated query validated as read-only before it runs.

Selected founder experience. Client names and sensitive project details are kept private.

03 / A little perspective

Small tasks.
A surprising amount
of time.

Ten minutes here. A few updates there. Recurring manual work adds up. This is often where a useful software project begins.

What could your team stop doing?

An illustration, not a savings promise. Minutes × frequency × people × 52 ÷ 60. Actual time recovered depends on the workflow and the solution.

04 / The approach

One person. The whole picture.

You work directly with the person understanding the problem, writing the software and making sure your team can use it.

01 / Understand

Start with the work.

Map the real process with the people doing it. Find the bottleneck and agree on what a useful result looks like.

02 / Build

Keep the scope clear.

Define the deliverables, build the right-sized solution and review progress together. No mystery about what comes next.

03 / Hand over

Leave you in control.

Admin tools and documentation for routine changes, plus a clear handoff. Your team shouldn't need a developer for every update.

Shashwath Udaya Kumar

Founder & engineer, SUK Labs

My strongest experience is in environments where the numbers need to be defensible and the data deserves care. I bring that same attention to small businesses: practical choices, clear communication and software built around the people using it.

A few useful answers

Before we talk.

Is SUK Labs a good fit for my business?

I'm best suited to teams of roughly 5-50 people without an in-house engineering team, especially when one focused project can remove a recurring operational problem. You don't need a technical brief to start.

Do I need to know exactly what to build?

No. Start with the task that takes too long, the information you keep re-entering, or the question your current tools can't answer. An assessment can help define a useful first project.

Does every project need AI?

No. An integration or a straightforward rule-based workflow is often the better answer. AI is a tool to evaluate against your needs, not a requirement to add to every project.

How are projects priced?

We agree on scope, deliverables and pricing before work begins. Depending on the project, that can mean a focused assessment, hourly work or a fixed-fee engagement. Third-party software and hosting costs are discussed separately.

Can we work together in person?

Yes. I'm based in Portland and work with businesses across Maine, on-site or remotely depending on the project.

Good work starts with a conversation.

Tell me what your team
is still doing by hand.

A rough idea is enough. We can talk through the process, where it gets stuck, and whether a small, focused project makes sense.
